Wrestling With Love

When I started Wrestling with Love by DH Starr I knew I would be in for a treat. I absolutely loved the first book, Wrestling with Desire, and I was very anxious to read the continuation about two characters that I’ve really come to love. Silly me started the book not to long before I planned to go to bed. I thought I would read a chapter or three, put the book aside, and continue it in the morning. WRONG. Once I started it, I was immediately caught up in the love that these two characters share, and there was NO WAY I could walk away from it until I read the very last page.

Basically, the book starts a couple of months after Wrestling with Desire ends. Both Derek and Scott are about to start their freshman year of college and are excited to start their lives not only as adults, but as a couple. The problem is Derek wants to start being honest with everyone about his homosexuality and live openly in a partnership with Scott. Scott on the other hand, is still in fear of coming out of the closet and wants to keep their relationship private. At first, Derek is okay with Scott’s decision, but as he continues to spread his wings and enjoy the freedom of being who he really is, he starts to resent Scott’s unwillingness to tell everyone that they are partners. Will they be able to resolve their differences and live together in harmony?

Like the first book, I went through an array of emotions as I read Derek and Scott’s story. I cried, laughed and fussed at the characters for being pig-headed at times. When the book came to an end, I couldn’t help but feel a lighthearted happiness with the ending. As usual, Mr. Starr continues to write characters that are not only realistically portrayed; they are very likeable and loveably flawed people that I would be very proud to call a friend in my own life.

Wrestling with Love is the second book in this series. It could be read as a stand-alone book, but to fully understand the dynamics of Derek and Scott’s relationship, I highly recommend these books be read in series order. In Wrestling with Desire, Derek and Scott are coming to terms with their homosexuality and are just starting to experiment with the physical side of being in a relationship with each other. Since it’s considered a YA genre book, Derek and Scott are just innocently fooling around, but in Wrestling with Love, not only has their relationship evolved, they’ve taken their love and sexuality to the next level. This book is very hot and spicy, and the emotional bond and physical chemistry between the heroes smoked up my computer screen. The boys have definitely grown into sexy and amazing men and I hated to see the story come to an end.

I’m going to keep my fingers crossed and hope that someday Mr. Starr will continue their story. There are a few unanswered questions and I would love to see Scott finally stand up to his father, be out and proud and watch Derek and Scott’s relationship really blossom into a partnership that will truly stand the test of time.

DH Starr has once again hit this one out of the ballpark. Not only is this book a homerun, his books will now be an automatic buy for me. Mr. Starr has a very interesting and informative website. Here is the link to check it out: http://www.dhstarr.com
