Soaring with Hawk by Sean Michael is a fast paced, fun and sexy read from start to finish. I love the unique world building Mr. Michael’s does in the Velvet Glove series, and each character he’s created are all interesting and likeable people who live and breathe off of the written page.
Jesterasialk Tcherristrav (Jester) is a young man who works hard on the line so he can help his poverty stricken mother support his many siblings. Recently, Jester was moved to another part of the factory where he’s captured the eye of his supervisor, Hawk Blackwing. Jester’s sweet shyness and responsibilities at home has kept him from dating, so when Hawk approaches him and asks him to have dinner with him, Jester is stunned that he asked him, and very excited to go. When Jester finds out that Hawk lives and works part time at the illustrious club, The Velvet Glove, he’s a little intimidated to go to such a glamorous place. But almost immediately, Jester becomes almost captivated by Hawk, and he’s soon swept up into a whirlwind romance that he never thought he’d ever have. But as Jester and Hawk forge a deep and everlasting connection between them, Jester’s mother is angered that her son isn’t constantly at her beck and call, and forces Jester to make a choice between them. Will Jester be able to live a happy life for himself within the warmth of Hawk’s love or will he give up his one chance of happiness to keep his mother happy?
I love, love, LOVE the Velvet series!! Each of the characters we meet are all colorful and fun people to get to know that all live very different lives. This keeps the series a fresh and interesting read as each story progresses into the next one. Jester is such a sweet character, so it’s easy to fall for him. I loved his innocence and selfless nature and I thought the highly experienced and very sexy Hawk was perfect for him. The chemistry they have together is intense and sizzles hotly throughout the book. I also appreciated how they actually liked, admired and respected each other. Not only were they lovers, they were very good friends as well.
Because the Velvet series was once a part of a serial series for Torquere Press, each book is very fast paced and has a lot of high energy. It also gives us glances at many of the other characters’ lives in the other Velvet stories, which I also love and appreciate. There is some light BDSM play in the book, but not too much for those who do not care for anything that’s way over the top and even those few scenes are very well written and extremely sexy. I loved this book and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
When factory worker Jester lets supervisor Hawk convince him to visit the Velvet Glove, he has no idea what to expect. Hawk treats Jester with kindness, and soon enough, Hawk wants Jester to move in and be with him for the rest of their lives. Jester's family are less than thrilled, but when he thinks he has nowhere else to go, he discovers that he'll always have a place with Hawk.
