One Real Thing

WOW! One Real Thing by Anah Crow and Dianne Fox is an amazingly refreshing read with a lot of twists and turns throughout the book. Not only are the heroes friendship tested and pushed to its boundaries; it develops into an all-consuming love that is truly beautiful to watch grow and thrive as the story progresses. Once I started this book, I couldn’t put it down. Not only was the characters wonderfully written, but their story is one that was truly an addictive one to read about.

Nick Addison and Hollister (Holly) Welles have been friends ever since they met in college. Holly has always lived life on the edge, and many times throughout their friendship, Nick has always been there to do what he can for him and to try to save Holly from his self-destructive ways. This works for a while until Nick pushes his feelings for Holly aside and marries a horrible woman that Holly distrusts and doesn’t get along with. Soon, the men start living separate lives and lose touch with one another. Years later, Nick is an unhappily married successful journalist and Holly continues to live a self-destructive lifestyle by having multiple sleeping partners and drug abuse. When Holly’s behavior is brought to Nick’s attention, he immediately drops everything and sets out to save his friend. Again.

Nick successfully hauls Holly to New York and puts him into an apartment. Their friendship naturally develops into a relationship were Nick makes most of Holly’s decisions for him to keep him from falling into his self-destructive ways again. As this happens, but men fight the growing attraction and love that develops between them. When Holly finally lands on his feet, it’s Nick whose life turns into shambles. But, since Nick wants Holly to live a healthy and happy life, he doesn’t tell Holly that his life has fallen apart, instead opting for Holly to grow and flourish into his own man. But, when Holly finds out that Nick’s life has hit rock bottom, will he be able to save Nick as Nick has done for him all these years? Will they finally be able to give into the deep and resounding love they have for one another?

I LOVED LOVED LOVED this book! I thought both Nick and Holly were compelling and realistically written characters that literally jumped off of each page. I loved how their relationship progressed throughout the book. Both characters do a lot of growing and evolve into very well balanced characters with a healthy and very strong love they share between them. Even though this book has moments that Holly submits to Nick, I would not really category this as a strong BDSM themed book. There isn’t any heavy BDSM play in it at all…just trust and the balance of sweet submission and loving domination between them.

The Real Thing is an incredible story that I hated to see come to an end. It has earned a spot on my keeper shelf where I’ll joyfully revisit these characters for many years to come. I’m definitely putting both of these authors on my ‘must read’ list. I can’t wait to see what else these authors come up with! Highly recommended!

Book Blurb for One Real Thing

Nick Addison has taken care of Hollister Welles since college. Though the responsible grad student and the uninhibited partier were total opposites, they had always shared an inexplicable bond. Nick knows he should stop saving the out-of-control Holly, but when Holly hits rock-bottom hard—and publicly—he can't resist coming to his rescue one last time. Can't resist the feeling of having Holly need him again.

Bringing Holly back to New York City, Nick gives Holly the chance to face his demons and break his dangerous habits—while keeping Holly's presence a secret from Nick's wife. He doesn't want to face Caroline's hatred of Holly...or the reasons she might have to resent him.

Then the tables are turned. Just as Holly pulls himself together, Nick's life falls apart. Now it's up to Holly to bring Nick back from the brink—and to make Nick finally face the desires he's long denied.
