Indian Blood Moon by Jaxx Steele is a story filled with demons, vampires and sexy heroes…Oh my! As part of Halloween themed, Phaze’s Raven series, it is novella which has the all the horror, fun, intriguing and fast paced elements a good monster story should.
Dante Tyler is bored with what his life has become. Once a hard nosed newspaper reporter, things have changed since his new boss has taken over. Now, he has a “What’s happening around town” article that is usually filled with fluff pieces and happy news, and Dante is already sick of it. When his new boss gives him the opportunity to expand his article into surrounding areas, Dante feels relief and begins to think that maybe now things won’t quite be so mundane after all. He’s given a VIP pass and told to rent a costume since it’s a Halloween party in the Chicago area.
When Halloween finally arrives, Dante arrives at the party and is a little confused because of the desolated area and the darkness of the building. When a beautiful man dressed as a vampire approaches him, he’s immediately captivated by him. The vampire introduces himself as Magnus, and Dante immediately feels safer with him. They walk into the party together, but are separated at the door.
Magnus has been a vampire to centuries. Each vampire in his coven has special skills. Since Magnus is a strong being, he’s a demon regulator. As a demon regulator, he makes sure that the demons stay in their own territory and doesn’t trespass into the coven’s domain. Magnus is tired of the traveling and loneliness the life of a demon regulator has. When he asked the council to relieve him of his duties, so he may find a mate, they agree and told him in fifty years he will find his mate at this Halloween party, and he will finally be released from his duty as a demon regulator.
Magnus immediately knows that Dante is the mate he’s waited fifty years for. But, when Dante disappears from the party, and is kidnapped by demons, Magnus must save Dante or he will be lost to him forever.
I liked Indian Blood Moon. There were a couple of surprise elements that I enjoyed, and I thought the world of demons and vampires that Mr. Steele created were both interesting and unique. I will say I’m a little disappointed in this novella because, I thought the ending was too rushed. Up until then the flow of the story and the chemistry between the heroes was very satisfying, then BOOM it was over without a lot of explanation that I admit left me a tad bit confused. It did end happily, which I love, but I would have liked a little more to it. I’m not sure what was completely up with Dante and Magnus. Yes, he was Magnus’s companion and mate, but how much did Dante’s life change and how did Magnus really fit into it?
I would love to read more about the demonic and vampire culture that was created in this novella. It’s very obvious that Mr. Steele is a talented storyteller, and I look forward to reading more books written by him. I enjoyed the sexual chemistry between Dante and Magnus and the emotional bond that they were just starting to form, I think I just wanted more of it.
I found Mr. Steele’s website which is very informative and has some nice eye candy which I enjoyed. Here is the link if you are interested in reading more about this author: http://www.jaxxsteele.webs.com
