Getting Out More

Getting Out More by B.A. Tortuga is a very sweet, short story. At just under nine pages, it’s about some well intentioned young children who want their divorced father, Rowdy, to get out of the house more, and start dating again. Getting out more also has the Friends-to Lovers theme, which admittedly is one of my favorite themes in the romance genre.

Rowdy and Darren have been best friends for years. After Rowdy’s divorce from his ex-wife they haven’t been able to spend as much time together. One weekend, while Rowdy’s children are away, he invites Darren to come over and watch a ballgame and just spend some quality time together. But, something is different about this day, and both men soon come to terms with the attraction and affection they feel for one another.

I really liked this story. I liked both heroes and Rowdy’s cute children as well. It’s a fast and sexy read that I really enjoyed. I hate that it was so short, but it gave me several great minutes of escape from my everyday world.

Rowdy really does need to get out more, but he's not ready for his two sons to start playing matchmaker. By the time they've set him up with every gay man in his small Colorado town, Rowdy is ready to just relax and hang out with his old buddy Darren. Will Darren convince Rowdy that there's a lot more to staying home than he thought, or will the two old friends stay just that? This story formerly appeared in the anthology, Fresh Starts.
