“In 27 Days” is a fast paced story that has the reader flipping through the pages.
Hadley has made a deal with Death! She is going to go back in time to stop a classmate from killing himself. I was swept up into the drama of this book and how Hadley goes out of her way to befriend Archer. Hadley and Archer are so different but so alike, which makes this story so enthralling.
Hadley's quest to save Archer from himself pushes her to step out of her comfort zone. As you get deeper into the book secrets start to unfold about what might have pushed Archer to make his deadly decision.
I think that it’s important to mention that the author does differentiate between how a suicidal person acts versus how they think. I think this is so important. We need to break down these stereotypes and really looking at the difference. Gervais shows us that even with a large and loving family there could still be something, like a secret, that pushes you to make that deadly decision.
Overall, this was a great read and that kept me on the edge of my seat waiting to see if Hadley would be able to save Archer in time.
Go Into This One Knowing: This book discusses suicide.
Hadley Jamison is shocked when she hears that her classmate, Archer Morales, has committed suicide. She didn’t know the quiet, reserved guy very well, but that doesn’t stop her from feeling there was something she could have done to help him. Hoping to find some sense of closure, Hadley attends Archer’s funeral. There, Hadley is approached by a man who calls himself Death and offers her a deal. If Hadley accepts, she will be sent back 27 days in time to prevent Archer from killing himself. But when Hadley agrees to Death’s terms and goes back to right the past, she quickly learns her mission is harder than she ever could have known.
Hadley soon discovers Archer’s reasons for being alone, and Archer realizes that having someone to confide in isn’t as bad as he’d always thought. But when a series of dangerous accidents starts pushing them apart, Hadley must decide whether she is ready to risk everything—including her life—to keep Archer safe.
