"Purr M for Murder" is about Sydney McCall, a woman who found her ex-fiancée cheating on her with her secretary. For a fresh start after the break up, she decides to move back to her hometown of Deer Park, North Carolina from NYC to help her sister run the local animal shelter. While she’s there, she stumbles upon a murder and her sister is the prime suspect.
I have to say that I had a great time reading this book. It was delightfully fun and kept me guessing. Sydney, the main character, was very charming and likeable. I had tons of fun reading from her POV and being in her head.
One of my favorite things was the setting, the town of Deer Park itself. It came off as a great place that I would love to visit. The people who lived there, the secondary characters, were quirky and charming and I found myself liking them all. Even the characters that came off as unlikable.
I sort of guessed who the bad guy was right off the bat, but with all the twists and turns, I kept second-guessing myself. By the middle, I thought I had the wrong person so I was shocked when I got toward the end and found out I nabbed the right person. But I totally had the motive wrong and the author caught me off guard with a few surprises at the end.
Overall, as cozy mysteries go, this was an excellent start to a new series! It had great characters, a quirky town, and a clever and entertaining mystery. The ending was satisfying yet left me wanting more so I can’t wait for the next addition! To hold me over, I will definitely be buying the author’s other mystery series!
Sydney McCall left behind an ex-fiancé and a New York advertising job to return home to Deer Park, North Carolina and help her sister, Kat, run the local animal shelter, Friendly Paws. Determined to save the shelter from financial trouble, Sydney and Kat organize a cat café fundraising event at a local coffee shop. Things are looking up until their landlord, Trowbridge Littleton, threatens to shut down the event. When Sydney drops by his art gallery to make peace, she finds Kat--along with Littleton's dead body.
Local homicide detective Will Worthington--who just happens to be Sydney's old high school crush--is highly suspicious of the sisters' involvement. Desperate to clear their names from the suspect list, Sydney pounces on the investigation. With the help of one of the shelter cats, a savvy orange tabby named Toby, Sydney begins poking her nose into other local businesses whose owners may have benefited from Littleton's death--until the killer notices she's pawing a little too closely at the truth.
Delightfully clever and charming, Purr M for Murder, the first in a new series from nationally bestselling author T. C. LoTempio, will leave readers clawing for more.
