"Live and Let Psi" is the second book in the Psi Fighter Academy novel series, which is about Rinnie, a Psi fighter, who helps protect the world from evil. In this new addition, Rinnie is looking to take down her archenemy, Nicolaitan, who is manipulating her classmates into puppets to look for the infamous “Morgan Girl” which happens to be Rinnie herself, but Nicolaitan doesn’t know that yet.
With this being the second book in the series, I highly recommend reading the first book first before picking this one up. The book does go over the events from the first book, but still, I felt a bit lost at times toward the beginning of the book.
My major complaint with this book was info-dumping. There were tons it, especially in the beginning. Chapter one is basically all info-dumping. It really slowed the pacing of the story, and I found myself skimming pages, bored. It does get better—almost non-existent once you get to the middle.
One of my favorite thing was Rinnie. I loved her. Her personality is so bad-ass and cool and I loved reading from her POV. She’s very relatable and funny. I couldn’t help but laugh-out-loud multiple times. Another thing I liked was the atmosphere and the world building. The author created a very unique and exciting world that’s really quite interesting.
Overall, I did enjoy this book! There’s tons of action, and the characters are very likable. The fighting scenes are very well-written, and the villain is evil yet hilarious at the same time. I will definitely be picking up the third book in the series.
Sixteen-year-old Rinnie Noelle is called into action again as the crime rate suddenly accelerates in Greensburg. Nicolaitan, the man who murdered Rinnie's parents, makes it clear that he wants Rinnie, and will go on a murder spree until she gives herself up. Rinnie's friends and teachers disappear in a bizarre game of riddles where fresh cemetery plots and poetic clues point to the next victim. Her rescue missions expose Rinnie to the horrors of the mysterious LaReau Mansion, and the secrets of the haunted Livermore Burial Grounds.
Between keeping the Dweeb League from getting themselves killed, dealing with a new Psi Fighter who gives her attitude, and trying to figure out who Nicolaitan's next victim is before it's too late, Rinnie learns that the stakes are higher than she is ready to deal with. Nicolaitan has declared war. He is using a mind-control drug to manipulate high school students, using them as puppets to carry out his crimes, and he doesn't care who becomes collateral damage in the process.
In a climactic showdown, the Psi Fighters are badly outnumbered by Walpurgis Knights when they face off for the first time in a decade. Even if the Knights lose, someone Rinnie loves may die in battle. But if the Knights win, Rinnie will be shot full of the mind control drug Psychedone 10, and forced to become Nicolaitan's slave.
