Dickensen Academy

"Dickensen Academy" is a YA book by Christine Grabowski. The main character is Autumn Mattison, a girl who receives an invitation to attend a new boarding school. Autumn is hesitant to attend at first, but once she has a dream about the school, she believes that it’s a sign for her to go. As Autumn attends her new school, she begins to learn that it has a dark side to it.

I was really excited to read this book. I LOVE books that revolve around boarding schools, so I was so ready to dive in and devour this book, and I have to say that I really enjoyed it. Even though the concept wasn’t original, I love that the author put a new spin on it.

My favorite thing about this book was the main character Autumn. She was very likable and relatable. Her struggles with school, new changes and family felt so real, and she dealt with all those issues in a realistic teen manner. I loved that. Lots of YA books nowadays have teenage characters, but they don’t act like teenagers. They act like adults and make decisions like adults, but I feel like the author really captured the teen spirit here.

Overall, I really liked this book! I enjoyed the world-building, and how it completely immersed me into the story. Everything felt so natural and flowed well. The descriptions were concise and detailed, and I loved the writing style. I recommend this book to YA fantasy readers.
