WHAT HAPPENS UNDER THE MISTLETOE, a collection of holiday-themed historical romance stories, is like a gift-wrapped confection. The four bite-sized novellas are written by some of the most talented authors writing historical romance today. Each romance is charming, sexy, and thoroughly satisfying. In fact, reading this collection reminded me how much fun it can be to read novellas. They move along at a quicker pace and focus exclusively on the unfolding relationship between the hero and heroine, which is why I read romance.
I particularly enjoyed the fresh, intriguing characters in Sabrina Jeffries’s THE HEIRESS AND THE HOTHEAD. Lord Stephen, the brother of a marquess, who writes political articles in a London newspaper and Amanda Keane, a lady mill owner, clash instantly, even as attraction sparks between them.
Karen Hawkins’s TWELVE KISSES TO MIDNIGHT includes an unforgettably feisty Scottish heroine, Kenna Stewart, and an equally appealing hero in Marcus Sutherland, the Duke of Rothesay. A second chance at love story, this one has lots of heat and fiery dialogue between hero and heroine. Another Scottish story, Candace Camp’s BY ANY OTHER NAME, is set in 1807 Edinburgh, Scotland and features fun and adventure. Rylla Campbell is a determined and independent miss who dresses as a man and sneaks into a gambling den to search for her brother, but she encounters Gregory Rose instead. After he uncovers her ruse, Gregory is hooked. This story has mystery, fun banter, and two loveable characters.
The last story in the collection is my favorite. Meredith Duran’s SWEETEST REGRET is the kind of romance I’ll read again, and again. It features Duran’s hallmark, exquisitely written emotion, and two beautifully flawed characters in Georgiana Trent and Lucas Godwin. This one is a second-chance love story too, but Georgie and Lucas don’t have an instantly pleasant reunion. Their shared past is painful, a hurdle to be overcome over the course of a winter house party, making every scene between them poignant and tense.
I love holiday-themed romance, but even if you don’t and are just looking for four delightful historical romance novellas, I highly recommend the WHAT HAPPENED UNDER THE MISTLETOE collection. The stories feature a variety of settings in several time periods, strong heroines, and devastatingly sexy heroes. Humor, heat, adventure, and unforgettable romance—these stories have everything historical romance readers love.
New York Times bestselling authors Sabrina Jeffries, Karen Hawkins, and Candace Camp, and USA TODAY bestselling author Meredith Duran come together for a sizzling historical romance holiday anthology.
Stunned by the heat of an unexpected kiss on a cold winter’s eve, two strangers from vastly different worlds turn hotheaded principles into burning passion in Sabrina Jeffries’s delightful yuletide story, The Heiress and the Hothead. In the snowy Scottish countryside, Karen Hawkins’s rakish duke has an unforgettable holiday encounter in Twelve Kisses when the alluring lady he surprises under the mistletoe is not who he expected, but a long-lost love with a score to settle. In By Any Other Name, Edinburgh is aglitter for Christmastime as Candace Camp sends a curious gentleman in hot pursuit of an intriguing lady in disguise—one who refuses to reveal her true identity, though she fears he has already stolen her heart with his kiss. In Sweet Ruin, will the festive spirit of the season sweep Meredith Duran’s feisty heroine beneath the mistletoe—and back into the arms of the dashing rogue whose carelessness soiled her reputation and sent her into exile in London?
In this all-new story collection sparkling with sexy charm and heartwarming wit, four beloved bestselling authors reveal the mix-ups and make-ups, the missed chances and golden opportunities that come but once a year.
