Erin has a major problem in that she can’t be touched. It all stems from an incident in her past and it’s shaped her now in a very dysfunctional way. In fact, all the members of the crew assembled to fight crime have their problems, and are criminals in their own way. Erin’s way? She’s an arsonist and an escape artist. The man across the table who captivates her is Connor, and he’s former military that screwed up. These two couldn’t be more opposite if they tried. And we all know that opposites attract.
Not to be too facetious but this book was hot. The chemistry between Connor and Erin is established right from the beginning and just burns brighter as the book progresses. Sometimes it feels a little less than healthy but broken people sometimes need to go to extremes to be repaired. The specter from Erin’s past is terrifying to her and a problem to be fixed for Connor, whose yummy ultra alpha tendencies are never hidden and are displayed in all their glory.
The book touched on Bowen and Sera from the first book in the series and dropped breadcrumbs for the next couple of Polly and Austin. The crime the group is to solve is present in the background but not a driving force. Erin and Connor are the driving force. Very erotic and intense action between these two and the dichotomies between their personalities seem totally incompatible. But love finds a way.
Connor Bannon is supposed to be dead. Dishonorably discharged from the Navy SEALs when his past exploded in his face, he's spent the last two years working as a street enforcer in Brooklyn, New York, for his cousin's crime ring. But thanks to a twist of fate, he's been given a fresh start in Chicago, going undercover to bust criminals. Just like himself.
Erin "she's getting away" O'Dea knows two things. She hates authority. And...nope, that's it. She hates authority. When this beautiful escape artist is forced to operate on the other side of the law, her fear of being confined and controlled roars to the surface. The last thing she expects is Connor, a man who becomes her adversary on sight, to soothe her when she needs it most.
When danger threatens their team from every side, Connor and Erin are thrust into a perilous situation that places one of them in the line of fire. They're forced to admit their feelings, feelings that run true and deep. But will it be too late?
