Staking His Claim

A Line of Duty Novel, #5

Guilty Pleasure Alert! Not for the sweet romance fan, this is the last story in the Line of Duty Series and I am so upset about that! Derek now has competition for favorite Alpha in the form of the tortured and dark Matt Donovan. He's brooding, built, and sinfully gorgeous and has been hit broadside by his attraction to the woman he's been sent to give a ride to New York. With the subterfuge Lucy institutes for what she believes will be a short car ride, she sets herself up for pain and anguish, both hers and Matt's. This story had a lot of undertones to it concerning honesty and accepting oneself. I liked that. Matt was shamed at a young age for his sexual preferences and it not only scarred him it scared him. Now he's thinks he's "bad" for what he needs to feel fulfilment when it comes to sex. That's sad. Lucy has been labeled a troublemaker but has outgrown that behavior, for the most part. It's a common problem in families, don't you think? Her way of dealing was a little white lie that turned into an elephant in her and Matt's budding relationship.

I'm sure some will have a problem with how the BDSM aspect was handled here, considering all the information available on the internet. Why didn't Matt seek help or a name for what he needed? Here's a shocker, not all people are totally plugged into the internet. Matt is a man who lives his life with his senses, not on a computer. That's my take, anyway. Why does Lucy lie to Matt? It wasn't meant to be malevolent or hurtful, it was for her protection. I know men have the "no sister" code but really? I could have done without that old roadblock. This is an entertaining story with danger and two people who are so busy lying to themselves they have a hard time telling the truth to each other. But they get there together. And that's what makes this a great read that I highly recommend.

Book Blurb for Staking His Claim

He wants her. All of her.

NYPD sniper Matt Donovan is in Hell. Instead of driving his best friend’s little sister home from college, he’s stuck with her roommate—a fresh-faced ray-of-sunshine with a body that makes grown men weep. There’s no way he’ll allow himself to taint the little vixen, no matter how hard she tries to tempt him, so he resigns himself to the longest—and hardest—drive of his life.

Matt’s obvious attraction suits grad student Lucy Mason just fine. She had no idea her brother’s best friend was so deliciously hot. Knowing he’d never have his wicked way with his buddy’s sister, she lies about her identity and seduces him. But Matt’s no fumbling college boy. His desires run deep—and dark—and he wants to teach Lucy what wicked really means.

Matt’s demanding appetites only make Lucy want more. But when her cover's blown, he’s furious—even as his hunger for her becomes insatiable. Matt can’t trust anyone, least of all himself. And he knows all too well that darkness always destroys the light…
