Simply Scandalous

House of Pleasure

This is the “end” of the House of Pleasure series, but any loose ends will be addressed in a new series called the Sinners Club. What a relief! A complex series, this particular book featured two romances, Richard and Violet are the main focus, and then there is Emily, Richard’s sister, and Ambrose, majordomo of the Pleasure House. I thoroughly enjoyed both, but forced to pick a favorite it would have to be Ambrose and Emily. Theirs was a slightly sweeter romance, if you will. Or as sweet as it can get with carnal knowledge before the wedding.

The parts of the book dedicated to Richard and Violet were fraught with revenge, anger, past sins and fear of being hurt by the other. Again. These two had a lot of hideously ugly baggage to sort through. But sort through they did, and they did so with hot sex with a little spite thrown in.

Family was never far as the Delornay-Ross is a tightly knit group. Interference couldn’t be avoided, and at times actually helped. Other times, not so much. As mentioned, there were a lot of story lines that were left dangling in the breeze and I look forward to the Sinners Club Series debut to maybe get some closure. Lord Keyes and Jack Lennox come immediately to mind.

The final book in the House of Pleasure series does not go quietly. Full of intrigue, concealed identities and residual danger from being spies the main characters keep the reader fixated and invested in how the story will play out. With sex being the engine that powers this series, those looking for a light read should look elsewhere. But if you’ve gotten this far in the series, you know what to expect and you won’t be disappointed.
