Rask and Grace hit it off once the armor drops to say the least. With lightning speed Rask accesses his genetic memories and figures out what to do with Grace. Mate her. Once successful he is able to protect her with his armor. The story is convoluted but the gist is now that Rask has a human female everyone wants one. While romantic at times, it was pretty cut and dried biology in the beginning. A good engaging story that had me looking for the sequel.
Shield sets the stage for this four book series with Earth gasping its last breaths. Decimated to the point of being uninhabitable those who could escape did. Grace is one of the lucky ones to make it onto one of the last shuttles transporting people to a new planet. Not exactly a luxury ride the shuttle crash lands on a hostile planet with horrible creatures that promptly kill the pilots, leaving Grace with a group of women and children whose lives are about to change even more than they already have.
While the inhabitants of the planet are human-like their genetic armor is horrifying to humans. Rask is of a warrior race and assumes all have the armor. These soft creatures are defenseless and even though he is 400 years old he is just now maturing. What ensues is an eye-opener for everyone.
Earth is all but dead. With meteors exploding in their midst, the shuttle Grace boards takes flight in a last ditch effort to save human lives. With little food, water and eight stowaways the situation is volatile while they race to the new planet, Ulsy. A wormhole and a crash are their undoing. While fleeing into the strange surroundings on an even stranger planet two of Grace’s shuttle pilots are killed by a massive ebony creature with fangs as white as ivory.
Rask is a full blooded Castian warrior who thinks his planet has been stormed. When he comes across the little being that cowers from him he is intrigued. After four hundred years and virtual immortality Rask thought he had seen everything. When the being before him declares herself to be a human female he is beyond amazed. Females have been extinct as long as he can remember. But there is no denying her sweet scent. One inhaled breath is all it takes to drop his shield and reveal the muscular tanned male beneath.
Rask had thought his armor impenetrable. One touch from a slender hand and he realizes he is powerless against the tiny human he must have.
