The Perfect Gentlemen return and don’t disappoint. The background arc set up in the first book continues as the mystery is unraveled a little bit more and I’m starting to get my suspicions. The next stop in the deeply rooted conspiracy lands us on Lara’s anonymous political blog, which is apparently the worst kept secret in Washington.
Connor, the scholarship kid of the Perfect Gentlemen, has made a life using his brain and the skills the CIA taught him to protect the country. And he also protects his brothers. With protecting Zack, the President of the United States and a fellow Gentleman, he encounters Lara, a woman unlike any he’s ever encountered and who his self-described dark soul identifies as his. He goes in to find out what Lara knows, lying at every turn, but most importantly lying to himself.
This series has been really deep and intricate but has been well-written and easy to follow. Each romance is resolved at the end of the book, but the background story is revealed a little in each book. Frustrating! The chemistry is pretty sultry between the naïve Lara and the jaded Connor, and that is what draws them to one another so magnetically. The ribbing he suffered from his “brothers” was funny and really drove home these powerful men began as we all do.
Lara was often blind in her trust, but she was also smart enough to recognize her foolishness when she calmed down. Connor never wavered in his determination, and that was very attractive. So he lied, manipulated and maneuvered; he was honest when he was caught. Very steamy bedroom (and other room) scenes with very vivid dialogue. Can’t wait for the next book.
