Second Chances

Rori is back home. She had to leave ten years ago because her mother was killing her. Not literally, but the judgmental, critical mess her mother made of her life was resulting in Rori being overweight, shy, as well as a host of other symptoms. She blossoms away from that negative influence, and it’s time to come home to be closer to her sister and to settle down. And the fact she caught her boyfriend in bed with another woman doesn’t help either. She’s a writer, so she can set up shop anywhere. Why not close to those she loves?

Jude is a ladies man. He can’t settle for just one. Sexually dominant, he’s yet to find the one woman he can put his collar on and be satisified with. But Rori is back. She was his friend when they were younger, and he knows her well. But this beautiful woman has all the wonderful characteristics of his friend, while also turning him on like no other. Could she be the one?

Rori is a fortunate woman. I really liked her but had to remember it was fiction otherwise I could have really hated her. Beautiful, talented and a hot man after her. Make that two hot men. Or was it three? She loved Jude from afar for years, but is aware and on guard about his proclivity to love and leave them. But he pushes the line too much and she writes him off. He’s indignant and incredulous, but knows he screwed up big time.

When Rori moves on and meets Zach, she finds there are other men who can give her what she’s just discovered about herself sexually. As she and Zach connect, they fall in love and her life becomes a fairytale. Jude is meanwhile in hell as he fully realizes what he’s done and that there is no going back. When tragedy strikes Rori, Jude is the man who takes care of her and protects her as she mourns and heals. He’s patient and loving. Supportive and giving. And he may get his second chance after all.

A lot going on in this story and it wasn’t all puppies and roses. Very emotional and painful to read at times, it was also heartwarming as well as erotic. While the focus was on Jude and Rori’s relationship, I was more interested in Zach and Rori. I thought Jude was a jerk, and while he changed as the story progressed, I don’t forgive easily. With it’s eventual happy ending, it brought home that you can have more than one person who means everything, you just have to be open to the possibility. But also, if you find the one you’d better grab on with both hands, because there is no guarantee another is around the corner.
