What a stellar read this was! I loved "Runaway Girl". After "Getaway Girl", unanswered questions regarding the missing bride are just waiting for the reader. While cold feet played a part in Naomi's decision, it basically boiled down to a case of identity. Hers, and how others perceived her as opposed to who she really is. And she doesn't even know who she is due to her upbringing which groomed her to be a rich man's wife. But what does she want?
As a small town girl, I ate this right up. What you see is what you get where I live, but this was a whole different world for me. When Naomi "came to the other side" so to speak I truly enjoyed her transformation. Her flirtations with Jason and her instant connection with Birdie smooth the way, but it's an uphill battle for Naomi's sense of self-confidence and just sense of who she is and what she wants to be, not what she was molded to be.
The story moves smoothly, with much appreciated intervals of smoldering longing between Justin and Naomi which morph into so much more. While Justin is a private person and also struggling with what he wants/needs out of life he puts it all out there for Naomi.
The author wrapped the book up with severe soul searching, wrenching indecision and palpable longing. "Runaway Girl" is another must read from a favorite author.
