Well just reach into my chest and pull out my heart why don't ya? This was a real emotional ride for the reader, and the one doing all the emoting was Henrik. This man fell for Ailish and never even reached out to stop it, just went with the gravity and enjoyed the sensation of weightlessness that comes with falling.
Ailish was way more than she appeared and had facets that were unexpected but most appreciated, not just by me but by all the members of the team. She too felt the pull of what she and Henrik share but her upbringing trained her to not trust so she was a little slower in her fall, but not by much.
The book moved fast and the focus was about trust. When trust is absent, there is nothing. That was a lesson a lot of people need to learn, but this was an engrossing way to get that message across. There were some dark moments, and evidence that some people should not have children.
The story moved fast and took place over only a few days but didn’t feel like it was rushed. The relationship between Henrik and Ailish felt natural and organic, just like the other couples that this series brought together. We also got to see the formidable Derek bend, just a little.
It's sad for the series to end, but the author tied things up nicely. I appreciated the updates on the other characters, as well as the future I anticipate them all having. A must read.
Disgraced cop Henrik Vance is having a shit year. Banished to a derelict undercover squad, he’s been tasked with hunting down the daughter of Chicago’s most dangerous criminal. His obsession with saving the beautiful girl destroyed his career. And this time, it might cost his life.
Ailish O’Kelly doesn’t need a hero. She’ll save herself from her father’s violent criminal dynasty, thank you very much. Unfortunately, the sexy as sin cop who crashes her hideout isn’t hearing reason—especially not after the kiss that becomes much more.
His boss wants her as an informant. Ailish wants Henrik to keep whispering filthy things against her skin. But she knows too well the evil they’re up against, and when it comes down to protecting the man who owns her body and soul, she only has one choice...
Each book in the Crossing the Lines series is a standalone, full-length story that can be enjoyed out of order.
