In the Light of Day

Holed up in the woods in a remote cabin, Jaren is celebrating his birthday alone with a bottle of wine and his sorrows. Cooper, the man he loves, is having problems recognizing his feelings for another man when he's always thought himself straight. Jaren invited him to stay with him, but so far he's no show.

Cooper has never had feelings for another man before. His attraction to Jaren has thrown him for an epic loop. How will this affect his career, how others view him, how his family views him? When he and Jaren posed as a couple to break a pornography ring he could tell himself he was just acting. Now his feelings are showing themselves to be all too real.

Struggling with the decision to go to Jaren at the cabin or not he receives a phone call that the man they put away has escaped and is gunning for Jaren. When he shows up at the cabin to warn and protect Jaren, a drunken Jaren reveals all his feelings and it is up to Cooper to put a halt to the outpouring. He has a job to do, and if and when they survive he'll deal with his feelings. And Jaren's.

The beginning of Jaren and Cooper's relationship was surrounded by intrigue and forced intimacy. That gave Cooper the opportunity to doubt what was an anomaly to him and convince himself it wasn't real. When Jaren pursues him he's torn between his desire and his fear of what others will think. What brings everything to a head is the real danger Jaren is in as a result of the sting they did on Ortega. This was a short read but moved very quickly. The author did a good job of painting a picture of Jaren and Cooper's past and how they came to be at this point. If they thought their relationship and feelings were a secret they were fooling themselves.

While there were some steamy moments the focus of this story was the emotions and angst. Anyone who reads this will come away with the same interpretation that I did; love is worth anything when it's real. Very heartwarming as well as hot. This is an author I'll be sure to keep an eye on for future books.

Book Blurb for In the Light of Day

Jaren’s birthday weekend isn’t going as planned. Instead of being in the arms of the man he fell hard for, he’s alone at his lake cabin. With a bottle of wine. When Cooper shows up on his doorstep, all appears right with the world. Until Jaren realizes the real reason Cooper is there.

Cooper didn’t mean to fall for someone he was working a case with. And certainly not a man. Cooper always thought he was straight, but posing as gay lovers to infiltrate a pornography ring had felt all too real. Now he has feelings for the sexy younger man. Strong ones. Just as he’s prepared to drive to the cabin and give Jaren a birthday in bed he’ll never forget, Cooper gets word the criminal they put away has escaped—and is coming after Jaren.

Jaren finally has the man of his dreams where he wants him, but for all the wrong reasons. He can trust Cooper to guard his body, but what about his heart?
