The wickedness continues but the brakes were put on for this particular story. Both Joaquin and Bailey know absolutely nothing about BDSM and it shows. They are in Dominion for the safety factor, not for sexual liaisons. But the attraction is epic and the location influences and propagates actions that would normally be suppressed. And so it begins.
Joaquin was not my favorite hero ever. I found his refusal to face his past and what happened to his family as a show of weakness, not strength. And the fallout in his life supports that opinion. It takes his friend being murdered to get him to even question his life and that's sad. His constant assurances to Bailey were a little much given his history with sticking with people and she wasn't shy about her disbelief. Unfortunately, that bit her on the ass as the book progressed.
Bailey, while initially a clueless wonder, was self-aware enough to question her attraction to Joaquin considering the circumstances and was the better adjusted of the two main characters. Her life is put under a spotlight and what she sees isn't pretty, but rather than run she faces and forges on. That's strength.
The sex was missing in it's usual abundance that I anticipate from this author. And that wasn't a bad thing. As noted, these two were new to the concepts they were playing with and their beginning was less than auspicious; a little restraint (pardon the pun) was good. As the book approached its conclusion I felt as if all the big build up just went flat like a day old balloon. I wanted a more substantial ending. On a brighter note, almost all characters from previous books were present and they have been a prolific bunch. I enjoyed the book, just not as much as I had hoped.
