Second book in the Hard Ink Series. Crystal is living a lie and paying a debt that isn’t hers the hard way. She’s got a will of iron with a backbone to match, and is counting down the months until she can spirit her sister away from Baltimore. Working at a strip club was not in her life plan but her father left her to clean up his mess. When Crystal witnesses the rescue of a prisoner of the gang who runs the club she helps in her own way. Little did she know she would be drawn into a series of events that would change her life forever. But is it for the better?
I liked to think of Shane as “Face” to those familiar with the A-Team. He had looks and used them to his and his team’s advantage, but hesitated when it came to Crystal. She touched something in him he couldn’t name, and by the time he did it was too late for both of them. Can he get her to trust him when trust can get you killed in Crystal’s world?
I enjoyed this story and the continuing mystery of the commanding officer of the team and why he went bad and their pursuit of the money he has hidden as well as answers. What I didn’t get out of this story, that I got out of the first in spades, was a romance. I never felt the chemistry between Crystal and Shane. I felt it between Easy and Jenna (a future book perhaps?). This is a series I will be following because the mystery is very complex and intricate and I really want to know the answers to all the questions. A good read.
Ever since hard-bodied, drop-dead-charming Shane McCallan strolled into the dance club where Crystal Dean works, he's shown a knack for getting beneath her defenses. For her little sister's sake, Crystal can't get too close. Until her job and Shane's mission intersect, and he reveals talents that go deeper than she could have guessed.
Shane would never turn his back on a friend in need, especially a former Special Forces teammate running a dangerous, off-the-books operation. Nor can he walk away from Crystal. The gorgeous waitress is hiding secrets she doesn't want him to uncover. Too bad. He's exactly the man she needs to protect her sister, her life, and her heart. All he has to do is convince her that when something feels this good, you hold on as hard as you can--and never let go.
