Ten years ago they were in love and perfect for one another. But Dakota wanted to go to Quantico and join the FBI and Lily wanted local law enforcement. When they graduated, Dakota went to Virginia and Lily to Minnesota. Secretly Dakota expected her to suppress her ambitions and follow him. But she didn’t. They both got married and had both survived a divorce. Now it’s the ten year reunion and Dakota isn’t letting anything stand in their way. He still wants, needs and loves Lily. And he’ll make any and all sacrifices to get her, and keep her.
The flame never died and when Dakota and Lily are in the same room together, surrounded by former classmates, they combust. Finding a private location quickly results in a $1,300 bottle of wine being broken, and two wounded hearts being healed. Standing firm when they were younger about their life goals only earned them loneliness and heartache.
I loved Dakota’s take no prisoners attitude. Lily was also receptive to a reconciliation but cautious due to Dakota’s previous expectations. Their carnal reconnection was awesome and Dakota’s total willingness to wear his heart on his sleeve a major turn on. Working on compromises were easy when they both realized they really were meant to be together, and both were willing to totally change their professional lives to be together. A phenomenal short read.
