I really wavered on how I felt about Charlize. She had a lot of characteristics I admired but one that really struck me wrong; her propensity smacking the hero. Now I know she isn't an abuser and it is used as an outlet for her frustration but it really just struck a bad chord for me. All in all the book had a really good flow to it, the obstacles and attitudes Charlize had to face believable if annoying.
Our introduction to Connor was amusing and while he was a tad overbearing his heart was in the right place. His initial denial of how attracted he was to Charlize was short-lived and then he began his pursuit with fervor. Personally, Charlize was a bit of a hot mess, but not all of that was her fault. I enjoyed the unveiling of the mystery and was pleasantly surprised by the eventual reveal of the bad guy; the author hid him well.
The steam that Charlize and Connor generated was satisfying but not overplayed. Connor's handling of Charlize's self-esteem issues was well done and he didn't treat her as a brainless female, even though I'm sure it was tempting with a few of her antics. I felt the sex in the office was a bit over the top but hey, at least she was the boss. The introduction of a little BDSM to diffuse Charlize's stress was realistic and fit Connor's personality to a tee. A good satisfying read all around.
You shouldn’t mix business with pleasure.
Yet pleasure seems to be the one and only thing on Charlize’s mind the moment Connor steamrollers into her life. Desperate to save her family company, prove she’s more than a pretty face and worthy of being CEO, pleasure is a distraction she can’t afford.
She doesn’t want a bodyguard, especially not one whose caveman heroics kick her libido into hyper drive. But surrounded by enemies and an attacker on the loose, there’s only one man she can trust with her life.
Connor knows better than to get personal with clients. Yet there couldn’t be anything more personal about his feelings for Charlize. From the moment he clapped eyes on her he wanted nothing more than to throw her over his shoulder and really give her something to scream about. He’ll get his uptight she-cat to unwind, preferably one orgasm at a time.
With Connor in her office, her home, driving her to sweet, merciless distraction, there’s only so long Charlize can resist his sexy, dominant brand of protection.
