Charity Prewitt had a fabulous life planned, and then life happened. Orphaned at a young age, finally on the verge of breaking out of her small town, she is drawn back in to help her elderly Aunt and Uncle, and never leaves. Years later, her life as a small-town librarian is quiet, with no romantic suitors in site. She has a friendship with an older famous reclusive poet, but that's not romantic in the least.
Nick Ireland has dedicated his life to helping people weaker than himself. He started his crusade at nine years old and hasn't stopped since. He's also dedicated to bringing down the monsters of the world, and Charity's poet friend is just that, a monster. He's really a Russian Mob leader, and he's going down. He just has to romance Charity to get into the mob leaders inner circle. He's done it before. No problem, right?
He's the Iceman. He does not sweat. He does not lose focus. He does not mess up. So why, after meeting his latest assignment Charity Prewitt, is he doing all three? And does he care?
This was a fantastically engrossing read. The premise of Homeland Security tracking such activities as outlined in this book is reassuring, but it's scary to think of this type of activity actually taking place, and I have no doubt it does. Can the Unit stop the horror the Russian Mob has planned? What lengths will Nick go to stop this monster? Will Charity simply be collateral damage? Or will Nick do anything to protect her?
While I've never read a book written by Lisa Marie Rice that I didn't like, this is one of her better works. While your traditional romance is told from the woman's point of view, this story is focused more on the breaking of the "Iceman," and his delightfully amusing confusion at his state. If you want to read about a hot Alpha male cracking, but not breaking, pick this book up and give it your full attention. You will definitely not regret it.
Small-town librarian Charity Prewitt never dreamed she'd meet and fall in love with a man like Nicholas Ames. The handsome, rich, charming, sexy-as-hell millionaire blew into tiny Parker's Ridge, Vermont, and immediately rocked her world. Powerful, sensual, the perfect man, Nick knows all the right words—and all the right spots to touch, sending her soaring to dizzying new heights of ecstatic abandon. Never before has prim and proper Charity leapt into bed with a perfect stranger—and now that she's there with him, nothing is going to drag her away!
But Nick Ames is not who he claims to be. In truth, he is Nicholas Ireland—the one they call "Iceman." A former Delta Force operator, now a high-level undercover agent, he will do whatever his government asks of him—lie, seduce, betray . . . even kill, if necessary—for the sake of the mission. And this time his mission is Charity Prewitt.
Suddenly one woman has broken down his chilly restraint and ignited his passions completely. And before the erotic dream turns into a nightmare, will Charity be able to melt the Iceman's cold, cold heart?
