If a cookbook can be cute then this is it. The finished products are adorable while also being edible. The instructions were clear and complete and the recipes, while not new or astounding, were comforting and yummy.
Did I follow the recipes exactly? Not always, but that was encouraged by the author so it's okay to make a recipe your own. I especially liked the Flipsides for my teenage boys and the Mason jar pies for traveling lunches and ease of storage until eaten.
As no one in today's busy world has time to make all 40 recipes in a book in one sitting, after reading through the book I selected 2 crusts and 2 recipes. After preparing a sweet recipe and a savory recipe I then proceeded to make a variation of all the shapes and sizes of Cutie Pies described in the book.
As I cook for a house full of men the only thing in this cookbook that didn't pass muster was the Piepops. My men and their manly appetites looked at them and laughed. The recipes, while simple, can be labor intensive so I would recommend tackling on a weekend when you have a lot of time. But the payoff is totally worth it.
