Crossing the Line

Battered Hearts 3

I could not fathom why Wyatt and Tabitha were apart. This story starts out in grade school and while they are from different sides of the “tracks,” as it were, they were obviously meant to be together. That was the driving force that had me reading like a madwoman. What is the impetus that makes Tabitha leave?

This is not a quick or easy read. There has been a lot of build up to this story in the previous two books (to me anyway) and I was so ready for Wyatt and Tabitha. Their story will break your heart and also lift it. The stories of their childhood’s are equally light and dark; Wyatt’s more idyllic than Tabitha’s. Both suffer loss at a young age, both learn how to deal with what life throws at them. But Wyatt has his temper to deal with and that comes up a lot in the story. I did not care for that aspect of his character at all. Tabitha, while she seems fragile, is just the opposite. She’s savvy and smart but trusts blindly at times, and even if she isn’t trusting she fails to think the worst of most people. That is what is the catalyst for the separation of Wyatt and Tabitha.

“Crossing the Line” was a fabulous addition to the series with cameos of Clay and Melody, Romeo and Jules, and the enticing brothers Tino and Nova. The sex evolves as Wyatt and Tabitha grow older, and I loved that they remained true even during their separation. Be aware this is part of a series and you will most certainly want to read the first two books before diving in.

Book Blurb for Crossing the Line

Wyatt Conner is a hard man. A sixth generation sheriff in his hometown of Garnet. A former MMA fighter. His life is about following the rules and making sure everyone else in Garnet follows them too.

Before life hurt him, Wyatt was a different person. Love had once blinded him to his upbringing and made him defiant against anyone who tried to separate him from the girl he loved. He easily broke laws to ensure her safety.

When she left it destroyed him.

Now she's back.

Tabitha knows coming home is a mistake, but family obligation demands it. Of course she would run smack into the love of her life the day she returns.

Despite the danger, Tabitha is powerless against the wild rush of desire that explodes between them the moment she finds herself in Wyatt’s arms again. They deserve a second chance, both of them, but she can't risk Wyatt finally discovering the real reason she left.

He broke the rules for her once, and now her haunted past threatens the man she loves--the man he's become--again. If he learns everything she's suffered, he'll cross the lines to take revenge. Tabitha just can't risk it. Not even for another taste of true love.
