How far would you run if you thought you did the unthinkable? Caleb runs pretty darn far and leaves all that he cherishes behind. In fact, he leaves behind more than he thought.
This is a spin off of the Kodiak Point series and will have a background mystery running through all of the books. And it is quite the mystery. Upon his return home, Caleb finds himself embroiled in the search for a mysterious creature stealing shifters. He’s also working with those he’s known most of his life; the best friend Daryl as well as his nemesis Wes. The dynamics of those life-long relationships add a lot of depth to the story as well as have me chomping at the bit for more information about the men.
Renny is a woman who does what she has to do to support herself and her son. She leans on her best friend Melanie a bit, but for the most part does it all by herself. Commendable. When Caleb returns she finds herself at a crossroads in her life with no idea if she can trust herself or Caleb. He screwed up bad years ago and she’s afraid to trust. But Caleb, while still screwing up a bit, is determined.
I really enjoyed the small town feel the author conveyed and live it myself every day. It truly is a different world to maneuver. Caleb’s eventual liberation from his dark past came from an unusual source that has me curious how that is going to pan out in the long run. The chemistry between Caleb and Renny is still strong, and Renny fights it, but she soon finds she’s fighting herself more than Caleb. This was a good mystery that has me guessing and wanting the next book for more clues, and another romance to get carried away with.
Take one deadly bite and, bam, a man’s life is changed forever, or so Caleb discovers when a loss of control leads to him joining the military and leaving everything behind.
Time goes by…years spent silent and alone, cut off from those he loves. Until it’s time to come back, a scarred veteran, in many ways broken and looking for a meaning to his life. Perhaps it’s not too late to right some wrongs. Make amends. Kiss a certain pair of sweet lips one more time.
If only Renny would damned well let him.
It doesn’t take Caleb long to realize Renny’s just the thing this croc needs to bring him back to life. Yet, what if he loses control again? He doesn’t want to take nibbling on her thighs to a whole new level.
Too bad, he can’t stay away, especially not when he discovers her secret. Add in a strange creature stalking the townsfolk and there is no way he’s leaving her alone.
Years ago it just about killed him to leave, but Caleb’s a changed man now. A darker kind of animal, and this retired soldier is ready to kill so he can stay.
