We met Creed in the first book, but now we get to know him up close and personal. Defined by his formative years, Creed was a celibate monk until he left his order to become a miner on Stark land. While his last name isn't Stark he's still considered a brother to Joran and Logan. Now richer than one can imagine, he's starting to lose the fight against the natural urges of his body. In his late 20's he's still a virgin, and Logan uses his leverage as a rich man to manipulate a friend of Kiri's to play courtesan in exchange for a new life on Frontiera. Yeah, that's going to end well. Taara and her cousin Daanel need out of Earth II fast and Taara cashes in on her relationship to Kiri out of desperation. Imagine her surprise when she finds herself in a position that requires her to sleep with a stranger? This book further illustrated the flaws in Logan and his ongoing struggle to be what Kiri needs. They appear in the beginning and end of the book only; the story is all Taara and Creed.
The chemistry between Taara and Creed starts when Taara sees his photograph. Poor Creed was totally blindsided. I loved his abbreviated way of speaking - he's been alone so long he doesn't really know how to converse politely. Taara is just the opposite and it makes for some amusing moments. While Creed initially disregards what Taara (and Logan) are offering his raging libido quickly takes over. He was no lover of the century and I really liked that the author showed him to be so inept in the bedroom. And not ashamed to research and learn what he needs to know to make Taara satisfied as well. With the constant threat of pirates, the annoying visiting niece of the housekeeper and the mysterious failure of the security system this story kept me on my toes. The end was somewhat predictable but enjoyable nonetheless. I look forward to Joran's story.
