Earth is a toilet and new worlds are within our grasp. Kenna is practical and puts her knowledge of growing things to good use and gets the heck off world. But while the environment isn’t as welcoming as she hoped, there are opportunities. And danger.
Kenna is a strong woman with a will of iron. She senses something is wrong and finds out she’s right the hard way. When Dar enters the picture, things get really interesting really fast. Kenna is a farm girl but finds herself acting as a spy, and not a very good one at that. When she and Dar end up in bed together, it’s the start of a relationship that neither see coming.
Dar is hard to describe. He’s royalty, but identifies with the average person quite well while other times displaying the cluelessness normally associated with those of privilege. Never mind the mindset that his people are more evolved than those from earth, and are even prohibited from having relations. As if! Dar has a lot of pressure as a monarch and Kenna relaxes him and brings a sense of peace. When the only way for them to be together is for Kenna to undertake a life-threatening pilgrimage, I would have said “adios.” Not Kenna.
The author did a good job with her world building and defining the differences and similarities between Dar and Kenna. Love transcends all it seems. There is intrigue and danger, worlds on fire and terrorists chasing Kenna and Dar. We meet additional characters interesting enough that I hope they have their own stories told. The book ended with tying up all the loose ends but leaves room for things to continue.
When I saw my chance to get off Earth, I took it. I knew I needed to escape.
I didn't know an alien monarch would claim me in the middle of his mating season! Now we're on the run together, facing terrorists and natural disasters.
I'm still trying to figure out my feelings for this sexy guy. He is totally into me, but he has some unique ideas about alien romance...
