Barbarian Mine

Ice Planet Barbarians, #4

Harlow is another survivor who doubts her ability to contribute due to a health concern. She’s one of the “tube” girls who was put into suspended animation by her captors so she doesn’t feel the closeness the other women do to one another. As such, she’s a little reserved and standoffish. While on a mission with another survivor and two aliens, she finds herself once again a captive.

Rukh is the alien version of Tarzan. Left an orphan in the wilds of the planet at a young age, he has no social skills, doesn’t bathe and for sure doesn’t comb his hair. When his chest hums for the strange looking human, he panics and takes her. Best thing he’s ever done.

Rukh’s story was so sad! His existence has been hinted at a few times, but we finally get to meet Mr. Tall, Dark and Clueless. He and Harlow deal with many difficulties, not the least of which is not being able to communicate and both struggling with the khui’s demand to mate. Awkward!

Harlow and Rukh’s story takes place away from the rest of the tribe, and as such it was a different experience without the input or interference from others. I liked that. Harlow’s worries about her health are not unfounded and Rukh’s struggle with what he was taught and what he is learning is heartbreaking. I enjoyed the different aspects of the planet that were revealed as the new couple ventured further away from the others. And if you can’t travel without a ton of bags with stuff, there are parts of this book that will have you absolutely cringing. Another lovely story about the boundaries love can conquer.

Book Blurb for Barbarian Mine

The ice planet has given me a second lease on life, so I'm thrilled to be here. Sure, there's no cheeseburgers, but I'm healthy and ready to be a productive member of the small tribe. What I didn't anticipate? That there'd be a savage stranger waiting nearby, watching me. And when he takes me captive, the unthinkable happens...I resonate to him.

Resonance means mating, and children...but I don't know if this guy's ever been around anyone before. He's truly a barbarian in all ways, right down to clubbing me over the head and claiming me as his own.

So why is it that I crave his touch and hunger for more?
