Lady Caroline Wynn is the survivor of a horrible arranged marriage. As a result, she is perceived as cold and distant to protect herself the only way she knows how. Marriage is not an option for her ever again, but she wonders if the horrible things her husband said about her are true. Is she truly a frigid woman?
The Earl of Manderville and the Duke of Rothay have been the best of friends for years. One evening in a drunken stupor they make an indecent bet over who is the best lover, and post it in the book at White’s. The wager is now the talk of the ton as to who will win, but more importantly, who will be the judge? Lady Wynn sees her chance to discover the truth about herself and what really goes on between a man and woman, and makes herself known to the two friends as a willing, anonymous, judge.
But what started as a lark on the behalf of Rothay turned into an examination of his own ability to care about a woman as a man should and not just as an object of his lust. Caroline intrigues and captivates him on all levels, not just the sensual, and when it is Manderville’s turn to woo the lovely Lady Wynn, he has a major problem that he doesn’t quite know how to deal with.
The bet was Manderville’s idea, but it was done when he was at his lowest after hearing the woman he truly loves is engaged to another. In a drunken fit, he makes her opinion of him drop even further with the outrageous wager. His life’s happiness hangs in the balance, but how can he convince his hearts desire his feelings are real? And what to do now that it is his turn to “compete” for the title of best lover in all of England?
I thoroughly inhaled this book. The premise was an enticing one, to be sure. It had all kinds of naughty possibilities. Once Manderville and Caroline joined forces, the objects of their respective desires didn’t stand a chance. Truly a romantic read with serious segues into emotional baggage on the parts of all parties involved, this is definitely a not-to-be-missed story.
It's the talk of the town. London's two most notorious rakes have placed a very public wager on which of them is the greatest lover. But what woman of beauty, intelligence, and discernment would consent to judge such a contest? Lady Carolyn Wynn is the last woman anyone would expect to step forward. But if the men keep her identity a secret, she'll decide who has the most finesse between the sheets.
To everyone's surprise, however, what begins as an immoral proposition turns into a shocking lesson in everlasting love...
