Caleb's first marriage went down in flames and with two daughters he's more than cautious on who he lets in his life. When circumstances require a nanny, he doesn't know what he's getting into with Tamara. A nurse by trade, Tamara is out of a job and things line up that she's the best candidate for Caleb's situation. Is this a disaster in the making or a fortuitous situation for both?
The story flowed well and I easily slipped into life on a working ranch. Caleb and Tamara had an explosive meeting in another book, so I was curious to see how this would play out. My first impressions didn't hold true, and that's not a bad thing. I initially thought Caleb was an ass with a chip on his shoulder, but that was quickly proven false. He's just a man who started his family young with the wrong woman and is now trying to protect those he loves. Nothing wrong with that. Tamara is more patient and perceptive than I originally thought, and is just what this family needs. Her calm is a steadying force to them all and she helps father and children heal from the wounds left by the end of the marriage.
Most of the book was about building relationships between all involved. Tamara connected with the girls and Caleb, and she even opened Caleb's eyes to things about his children he never realized. The chemistry was there between the adults but neither was willing to pursue at the expense of the girls. Most of the steam and romance happened at the end, and even the romance needed a prod by Tamara. Caleb really was a clueless man, but that will change as he flourishes under a woman's love. A very entertaining read about how to take it slow to get your final goal.
