If Wishes Were Husbands

I enjoyed the opportunity to read a book by an English author. This book follows the old saying -'oh what a tangled web we weave when we practice to deceive'. Poor Rachel nudging forty and fed up of being treated like a pathetic single, cat-lady, invents the perfect husband and finds that having a fantasy come true is nothing like she could have anticipated.

I found this book to be clever, funny and wonderfully entertaining. I doubt if this happened to me that I would have dealt with it any differently. Rachel's life is turned upside down all because of her lie. Amidst the humor, the message behind it is quite thought provoking. Who would have thought that a man who cooks wonderful meals, is stunningly attractive, thoughtful, and wants to make loves several times per night, every night, would be expensive, irritating and exhausting?!

I expected before I read this book to have little sympathy with Rachel, because after all, she got what she always wanted, but I couldn't help but feel for her and the drama that one little white lie brought to her door.

Elizabeth Kyne has created a brilliant romantic comedy in the tradition of Bridget Jones.

But people's eyes glaze over when she tells them about her life as a forty-something singleton who works in accounts. So why not spice things up a bit? Why not tell her new hairdresser and her new friends about her fantastic husband? .Until she comes home one night and finds Darren sitting in her lounge. And everything she said becomes true: from his sensuous food to his skill in bed. So real, that she believes it.

Not as if living with a perfect is man is. well, perfect.

Three times a night is great at first, but sometimes all she wants at the end of the day is a sandwich and some sleep.
