This book had a good premise but failed to grab me with its execution. The romance could have done with being a lot hotter and at one point the hero was transformed into a modern day couch potato. I assumed that the point of making the hero come from another time was that he would be otherwordly, and chivalrous, and I found it disappointing as a result.
After a vicious attack, Kate fears she can never be close to anyone again, let alone allow another man to touch her. She moves away to the country to hide and recover. But after a couple of lonely months, on the spur of the moment she visits a local animal shelter and adopts a dog that’s about to be put down. They share a special bond and she has to bring him home.
That’s when the dreams start. Dreams of a man with golden eyes who breaks through her barriers with no effort at all, reminding her what desire can feel like. The sex is incredible, at least while she’s asleep. But when she discovers her furry companion is really the victim of a centuries-old spell, she fears what will happen when the man of her dreams starts walking around for real.
