What made this wonderful isn't the intimacy or the romance portion although that is great it is the struggle both Ford and Trevor go through. You get to see each of them work through something and rely on each other for strength. For Trevor it is what a family is, what love and relationships are and how to reconcile being with someone who has a passion and love for something he loathes. Also it is his fear. His fear that Ford will pick politics over him. For Ford it is reconciling with himself, his religion, his political stance and his family about who he is. He is a sweet, honorable, kind and passionate man in politics. He is also gay and that goes against all he has been taught. His parents feel this is a sin. His political affiliation feel this is a weakness as does the church. So for Ford he is feeling shame and lost.
Upon entering into what Ford and Trevor thought would be just one night, they allow themselves to forget all that weighs on them to come together for a very intimate and sensual time. This, however, turns into more. For Ford he sees that he is not sinning or something to be ashamed of. He sees or begins to see that his Creator put this in his plan so it isn't against his beliefs now he just needs to get the courage to tell everyone. Not only that but he finds someone to love and share his life with. He doesn't take the bedroom intimacy lightly but he is still conflicted. He doesn't want to lose his dream and he needs to come to terms with it. For Trevor, he finds someone to trust and love but he still doesn't trust that Ford will put him first.
This is their story of how they find one another. It is their wonderful story of the struggle for each of them to find themselves, each other and the strength to be each other’s everything. For Ford, it is his struggle to become who he is a gay man. He is already honorable and sweet but not comfortable in his own skin. Trevor gives him the strength to be that and more. He gives him a reason to live for happiness. He gives him love and happiness. The same thing he gives to Ford. Apart they are great characters, both kind and caring. Trevor is more cynical and jaded than Ford but still a compassionate man. Together, however, they are amazing characters. They have each other to talk to and help through things. Ford helps Trevor see that his family is one and there is love even if it isn't seen outwardly. Trevor helps Ford become who he is meant to be.
This is a fun beautifully written book of two men meeting at a time in their life that they are receptive to finding love. A book about finding yourself and becoming the man you are meant to be. About love and devotion.
