One thing you should know before picking up The Secret Sisterhood of Heartbreakers: This is not a book about love and romance. The cover may be cute and welcoming, but this book is strictly a book about revenge and getting even. From being heartbroken to becoming the heartbreaker, main character Lucy goes from one extreme to the other.
I tried to like this book more than I did. I loved the premise, but inside the girls in the sisterhood were a bit controlling and extremely weird. From the creepy mansion to the witch craft, I was questioning their true motives the entire book. What the fudge was going on? Their goal was to make guys fall in love with them, break their hearts, and then collect their tears. The purpose and reason behind their heartbreaking was never clear, to me, and I found this more bothersome. I doubted their justifications in being harsh to the guys they chose. I, I must confess, felt sorrier for the guys than the girls.
One big issue I had with The Secret Sisterhood of Heartbreakers is main character Lucy. When the book began I really liked her, she had my complete attention and sympathies. However, as soon as Alex broke her heart, I almost understood why. She came off as obsessive and clingy. Eww! Her box of tokens was overwhelmingly desperate. I couldn't blame the boy from needing a break. Then again, I did sympathize with her. She is just a girl, and no one should have to suffer heartbreak. which leads me back into feeling sorry for the guys.
Overall, I enjoyed this book more than I disliked it. It's not my favorite read, but it is entertaining. I felt slightly bi-polar while reading. From shouting "you go girls!" to cringing for the boys, I couldn't decide which side I was really cheering for.
For a quick and entertaining read, The Secret Sisterhood of Heartbreakers is a good pick.
