The Robot Book

The Robot Book is one of the most adorable books I’ve read as-of-late. This sweet board book created by Heather Brown is interactive, and will have any young child (and the parents) smiling as they read through the pages.

When I received this squared package, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised to see the smiling robot on the front cover. It was immediately inviting. The bright colors will catch any person’s attention, especially a young person. There may not be many words, but each one is colorful and shaped like tools and parts.

Each page turned has an interactive page with gears and cogs for the young readers to play with. Each interactive part fits in perfectly with the words; however, I had trouble getting all of them to move. The parts would turn slightly, but then they would get stuck. For an interactive board book to be a success, it needs to be able to work better than this one. I had hoped my book was defective… after pursuing other book reviews for The Robot Book, I noticed this was a recurring complaint.

Overall, The Robot Book is: very sweet, very colorful, very interactive (minus a few sticks), and very recommended. I loved the message Brown delivers. Everyone is made with eyes, noses, arms, etc., but it’s what’s inside that really matters.

Book Blurb for The Robot Book

This robot has two eyes, two arms, and two legs, but what really makes him tick? Inside The Robot Book, Heather Brown answers that question within an interactive story that features actual working--and moving--parts. Gears and cogs are mounted on each illustration to keep little fingers and imaginations engaged.

While the junior engineer is tinkering away, parents will also be charmed by the story's warm text, which reveals the true secret behind what makes our robot tick. Here's a little hint: It isn't a gear, or bolt, or some other mechanical part, it's what's in his heart that counts the most. Perfect for year-round gift-giving, the book will be packaged inside a protective poly-bag.
