Waiting for Revenge

Autumn Piper’s Waiting for Revenge is a contemporary look at a marriage’s fallout and the subsequent ramifications. We meet Mandy and Mike who have been married for fourteen years. When she sees her husband with another woman she is absolutely devastated. He begs for a month to “work things out” via counseling. She agrees since its Christmas time and she wants their kids to enjoy the holidays.
I will warn fellow readers, this is a first person accounting and you don’t really get into the mind of any other character except how Mandy wants you to see them. I’m not a huge fan of first person POV, because I’m nosy and want to know what everyone thinks. That aside, Piper had me within the first paragraph. I started reading this at late at night and couldn’t let go of the story. Mandy is ‘every woman.’ She is approachable, she has flaws, and she tries to be a better person. She wasn’t drawn out to be uber mom and wife and she never once victimized herself. The fall out from seeing Mike with another woman was horrific to see through her eyes. Her reactions afterwards were honest and believable.
Running became Mandy’s solace in more ways than one. She meets her neighbor Adam at the cemetery and they instantly click. He knows she is going through an incredibly tough time and let me tell you- the romance and level of care between the two was just phenomenal. The phone call scenes are not to be missed. There was conflict in their relationship because Mandy’s brittle. How couldn’t she be? This is an emotional roller coaster ride from the very beginning. Since we’re reading from Mandy’s perspective, the strength that she has (and is most likely unaware of) is amazing. I’m pretty sure I couldn’t handle day to day living with as much grace as she showed. Waiting for Revenge had a few laugh out loud moments, a lot of stomach churning “how can that happen moments” and lots of ups and downs. I will definitely check out Autumn Piper’s other works.

One good heartbreak deserves another.

Mandy plans to leave her husband the minute their month of counseling is over. How can she forgive his outrageous affair? It would almost be funny if the consequences weren't so harsh. They've got kids, and families with strong -- and warped -- opinions on marriage.

Her aunt thinks she should take a page from the black widow spider. Her brother's begging to avenge her broken heart, and their marriage counselor offers to play the willing victim in some payback sex.

While her clueless husband launches a campaign to win her back, Mandy meets Adam, the perfect shoulder to cry on. Will perfect justice prove just how sweet revenge can be when you wait for it?Content Warning: Real people aren't all good or all bad. Neither are the characters in this story. The shade of right or wrong you see may depend upon whose glasses you are looking through.
