This was very different that what I was expecting. I went into this thinking it would be a classic Linda Howard romantic suspense. That's how it is tagged. Unfortunately that's not really how it came across. The plot is that Morgan has been seriously injured and he needs to lie low while they try to figure out who is trying to kill him. He's placed with small town police chief Bo.
There is action for the first part of the book and then again at the end and those parts were what I would consider romantic suspense. The majority of the book though is what I would consider small town contemporary and it's mostly involves the heroine's Golden Retriever. I've read other books told by the dog's point of view and it can really work but it just didn't draw me in. Maybe because it was so not what I was expecting.
My biggest issue was the romance itself. I just didn't feel a connection between these two. I thought the romance was just ok. The end picked up but it wasn't enough to make me love the book.
Overall this was an average read. It was unique but was not what I was hoping for when I started this book.
