This is another really good book in the Special Delivery series. In this book, the third in the series, Chenco Ortiz is a 24-year-old guy living on his own in a small town in Texas. He works two jobs to get by and has no family support. His abusive dad recently died, his mother disowned him for his lifestyle and he has few friends. What he does have is his pride and his alter ego, drag queen Caramela.
Just when Chenco thinks things can not get any worse they do. But that triggers a chance meeting with Steve Vance. Steve is a 41 year old leather-daddy with a penchant for sadism. Something about Chenco calls out to Steve and he finds himself entranced for the first time in many years. What starts as simple kindness turns into friendship and then in to much more.
I have to admit I was a little concerned when I started reading this book. I had read and enjoyed the first two books in the series but the sadism/masochism component put me outside my comfort zone. I'm so glad I pushed past that and gave this book a try. The author does such a good job developing the characters that I quickly found myself absorbed in their story. They both came with their share of secrets and emotional problems but they were characters I cared about. I wanted to understand their lifestyle choices. I wanted things to work out for them.
The book comes with warnings regarding sexual situations in the story and you need to make sure you make note of them because there is non-traditional bedroom scenery. As I previously stated, it was a little outside my comfort level but I felt the author did a good job presenting their lifestyle practices and I did not think any of the scenes were too extreme. They were not very graphic and I found them pretty easy to read.
There is a tie-in between Chenco and Mitch (from books 1 & 2) so we get to see Mitch, Sam, Randy, Ethan and even Crabtree for a good portion of the book. I love that about this series. Every book is like a family reunion.
My favorite thing about this series is how the author takes characters outside the "norm" and makes you understand them and care what happens to them. If you are looking for a unique and heart-warming series you should definitely give this one a try.
It takes a strong man to be this fabulous.
Crescencio “Chenco” Ortiz pulled himself up by his garter straps after his father’s will yanked the financial rug from under his spank-me pumps. He doesn’t need anyone, yet when Steve Vance steps into his life, the prospect of having a sexy leather daddy on tap begins to take on a certain appeal.
There’s a hitch when he learns Steve is friends with Mitch Tedsoe—the half-brother Chenco never knew except through his father’s twisted lies. Despite his reservations, soon Chenco is living his dreams, including a performing gig in Vegas. Now if only he could get Steve to see him as more than just a boy in need of saving.
Steve’s attraction to Chenco is overshadowed by too many demons, ones he knows his would-be lover is too young to slay. Yet as he gets to know the bright, determined young man whose drag act redefines fierce, Steve’s inner sadist trembles with need. He begins to realize Chenco’s relentless tough love might be the only thing that will finally set him free.
Warning: This story contains glamorous drag queens, exhibitionist secondary characters, and no-holds-barred BDSM play, including watersports. Readers are advised they may well leave this novel feeling uncharacteristically fierce.
