The Demon's Song

Hearts of the Fallen #1

What a great paranormal romance. This was my first time reading this author and I have to say I am now a big fan. This story was action packed and emotionally intense. I'm a sucker for the tortured hero story line and Phenex was a great example of how well it can be done.

The story begins when Sofia, a human, is looking for a missing friend. She goes in to a nightclub unaware that it is a club for vampires. While looking for her friend she runs into Phenex, the beautiful and mysterious singer of the club. Phenex was the Angel of Song before he fell from heaven. After thousands of years as a high lord in hell Phenex is now working as an assassin for the angels. Sofia witnesses a violent vampire act and lands herself in the middle of a vampire war. For some reason Sofia and Phenex are drawn to each other and Phenex finds himself volunteering to protect her.

What follows next is an exciting adventure and a touching romance. Phenex has suffered for many years over his choice to fall. His character is filled with grief and guilt and he hides his despair behind isolation and having a difficult personality. The author does a great job of unfolding and developing the relationship between Sofia and Phenex. Her characters are well written and you could feel Phenex's overwhelming pain as he comes to term with his past & all he had lost.

If you are a fan of paranormal romances I highly recommend this one. It is fast paced and has a unique story line as well as a wonderful romance and some sexy scenes.
