I'm always on the lookout for new paranormal/UF series and I was excited to come across this one. So happy that it did not disappoint. Val is a fae who was once a battle prince and is now an investigator with the AURA. He's out of sorts in our world and his social skills are not very good which leaves him alone and miserable. Quinn is a mage with strong powers. He's independent and often isolated from others. The two men meet in the course of an investigation and sparks fly.
The mystery part of the story was well done and I really enjoyed the world the authors have created. There is a lot going on but it wasn't confusing or hard to follow as some UF is. I thought Val and Quinn were both complex characters and I loved their interactions with each other.
This was a well written story. It was creative and enjoyable on a lot of levels. It was my first time reading these authors but I'm now a fan and I can't wait to read the next book in the series.
AURA, the Agency of Unnatural Resettlement and Assimilation: it’s a weird job, but somebody’s got to do it.
A magical catastrophe tears the fabric of reality, causing unpredictable holes between worlds through which anything might fall—elves, centaurs, trolls, yeti. The brave officers and employees of AURA struggle daily to help the lost and injured, and contain the irretrievably violent while their research staff scramble to find a way to reverse the effect.
Anything can and does pop through into the human world, sometimes with disastrous and deadly results. It’s a race against time to see if the AURA mages can repair reality and stop the inter-dimensional flood before something crosses over that proves strong enough to destroy the world.
