Pent Up

Ruben is starting his life over in New York City. He's been through some hard years but is sober now and working for his brother at a private security business. He's assigned to their newest client Andy, who states he's in danger due to business dealings. Nothing makes sense about his story and Ruben doesn't trust him at all. In fact Ruben tries to get his brother to not take Andy's case. His brother doesn't listen and next thing Ruben knows he's living with a man who is nothing like he seems and who's world is made up of secrets. Ruben finds himself inexplicably drawn to the man and he soon realizes that he might have given up alcohol but there are other dangerous addictions still out there.

This was a different type of story and the main characters were not ones you see a lot in this genre. They were both complex and unlikable in some ways. Despite that I was drawn to them both. Both men are straight and neither intends to be in a relationship with a man. For some reason neither understands they are attracted to each other. Their chemistry just jumped off of the pages and the sexual tension was really well done. You could feel it in every one of their interactions. I felt the characters were the strongest part of the book and I really enjoyed that part.

The story is part mystery as Ruben tries to find out who is after Andy. It would have gone smoother if Andy would have told the truth. Ever. There were parts of this I thought were really good and parts that were a little confusing. I think this part of the book could have been a little stronger.

My other complaint of the book was some of the language. It was very crude. Not in the amount of swear words just in descriptions of things. Ruben's character was very.....well crude is the only word that comes to mind. This is entirely a personal choice but it's really not my thing and it bothered me in some scenes.

Overall though this was a good book that I enjoyed. It was different and I always appreciate that.
