I'm a big fan of Garrett Leigh and this book didn't disappoint. The story is set in during the Kosovian War and Mikail works for the underground resistance smuggling important things out of the country. One night he meets CIA operative Isa and is immediately drawn to him. The two men begin a secret relationship amid the chaos of war. They work together to smuggle children out and to pass secrets to the people who need them. One fateful night Isa has to make a choice and the two men are torn apart.
This was a short story that was both a fast paced adventure and sexy romance. I liked both of the main characters and I felt so bad for them and the situation they were in. The only thing I didn't like about it was that it was a short story. I wish this would have been a full length novel. Their relationship was so complicated it would have made a great full length read.
During the Kosovan war, Mikail fights in the depleted underground resistance, smuggling intelligence and precious cargo out of war-torn Pristina. Isa, an enigmatic CIA operative, becomes an unlikely ally, and when a secret mission brings them together, heat, passion and a love they've never known consume them. They forge a deep bond, but the war around them continues to rage, and as Serbian forces close in on Pristina, Isa makes the ultimate sacrifice to save his young lover.
Four years later, Mik lives in the shadow of the Albanian mountains, trying to rebuild his life with what remains of his family. His grief for Isa weighs heavily on his young shoulders and their time together feels like nothing more than a stolen dream.
