Missing You

NYPD Detective Kat Donovan is content with her life until one fate filled night when her best friend informs Kat that she's signed her up for an online dating service. Kat decides to check it out and finds her ex-fiance Jeff on the site. Seeing Jeff's picture brings back a myriad of feelings for Kat. What seems like a simple message to an old lover quickly spirals in to a mystery of a missing woman and puts Kat into the middle of a huge criminal case.

In addition to the issues brought up by the dating site, Kat is also struggling with her father's murderer being terminally ill. His death bed confessions bring questions and doubts into Kat's world and suddenly everything she thought she knew is wrong.

This story is fast paced and action filled. I enjoyed the story of the internet dating site a great deal. The part with Kat's father was distracting to me and for some reason I just didn't connect to the storyline. Normally I am a huge fan of all of this author's work but this book just did not work for me. I'm struggling with find concrete reasons for why I didn't care for it but I only have one major complaint. I didn't like the ending at all and thought it was just too farfetched. Despite only having the one major complaint the book was still just kind of blah. Overall the story was just ok. Didn't hate it but defiantly didn't love it.

Book Blurb for Missing You

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Harlan Coben, a heart-pounding thriller about the ties we have to our past...and the lies that bind us together.

It's a profile, like all the others on the online dating site. But as NYPD Detective Kat Donovan focuses on the accompanying picture, she feels her whole world explode, as emotions she’s ignored for decades come crashing down on her. Staring back at her is her ex-fiancé Jeff, the man who shattered her heart?and who she hasn’t seen in 18 years.

Kat feels a spark, wondering if this might be the moment when past tragedies recede and a new world opens up to her.  But when she reaches out to the man in the profile, her reawakened hope quickly darkens into suspicion and then terror as an unspeakable conspiracy comes to light, in which monsters prey upon the most vulnerable.

As the body count mounts and Kat's hope for a second chance with Jeff grows more and more elusive, she is consumed by an investigation that challenges her feelings about everyone she ever loved?her former fiancé, her mother, and even her father, whose cruel murder so long ago has never been fully explained. With lives on the line, including her own, Kat must venture deeper into the darkness than she ever has before, and discover if she has the strength to survive what she finds there.
