Lyric Morrison is a burlesque dancer at a local club. She is also psychic and at times can communicate with ghosts. One night on the way home from work she is attacked by a stranger. She is rescued by another stranger who is possibly even more dangerous. Jade is a centuries-old vampire who generally stays away from helping humans but something about this woman draws him to her. Lyric knows immediately that Jade is a vampire and she is equally drawn to him. They part ways but later Lyric has a vision that Jade is in trouble and she seeks him out. Jade has secrets from his past and those are about to catch up with him and they will endanger both him and Lyric if the bad guy has his way.
I had a hard time writing this review because I generally love this author's work and I really didn't want to write a bad review on anything of hers but... This book really did not work for me. It wasn't horrible but it wasn't good. Very blah. The story was "just ok" but it moves slowly and not much really happens. The characters were "just ok" but not very interesting. I wasn't drawn to either of them and I didn't really care what happened to either of them in the end. The love scenes were "just ok". Not sexy, steamy, goodness like they are in her other books. It was all "just ok". Unfortunately, "just ok" doesn't make me a happy reader.
One thing I like about this author is she writes dark vampires. They are not kind and out to save the world. They are vampires. They drink blood and sometimes they kill people. It's in their nature. Jade was a dark character struggling with his vampire nature in an effort to be better and to love Lyric without hurting her. I really enjoy a broody, tormented vampire in my stories.
There were no major flaws with the writing or the plot so I don't have any specific negative things to point out. It also didn't have anything I loved about it. As I said before, "just ok". Those two words really sum up all my feelings about this book.
Psychic burlesque dancer, Lyric Morrison, can't believe she was attacked on the street and a vampire came to her rescue. Jade is enchanted the moment he lays eyes on her, but a dark past prevents him from letting himself love a human woman after centuries of walking alone. Though he is drawn to Lyric, he doesn't trust himself or his eternal bloodlust.
When Lyric has a vision that Jade may become endangered, she goes out of her way to reunite with him. Unable to get her off his mind, he is overjoyed to learn that she is looking for him. However, somebody else is also seeking him out with a serious need for vengeance. Can Jade finally let go and learn to love again, without fear?
