I'm a big fan of dragon shifter stories and this series has been a favorite for quite a few years now. Forge has been a character who's story most fans have been anxiously waiting for. Fifty years ago Forge lost his entire family in a brutal attack. He suffers from horrible nightmares but can not remember the details of what happened or who the attackers were. When other attempts to help him remember go wrong, the group brings in a human hypnotherapist to try and help Forge remember. The woman, Hope, is high energy and it immediately hits Forge.
This story was a little more mellow than some of the previous books. There were not as many action scenes, although that is not necessarily a bad thing. There was more focus on the love story between Forge and Hope. It unfolded in a really sweet way and I liked the two of them together a lot. Forge has been the character I've wanted to see have a happily ever after for awhile now.
The writing was good as was the pacing. All of the characters from previous books were there and it was good to see all of the other couples. My only complaint was that it had been a very long time since the last book was released and I was a bit confused at the beginning of this. I had to go back and read some reviews of prior books to refresh my memory.
Overall though, I really enjoyed this. This could be read as a standalone but I wouldn't recommend it. I think it would diminish some of the emotions in the story. If you are already a fan of this series though, I think this is an installment you are going to enjoy.
