Cross & Crown

Sidewinder, #2

Nick O'Flaherty arrives at the scenes of a murder and finds he has a witness. This seems like good news until he realizes his witness doesn't remember anything. At the same time Nick's boyfriend, Kelly Abbott, shows up in town for a visit. As the case unfolds they realize someone from their past is involved and the hunt for Julian Cross unfolds.

If you have been reading this author's side series, Cut & Run, you know Julian and his back history. In this story the three men begin working together to find Cameron and to solve a complicated mystery involving some missing treasure. The whole mystery itself was a little confusing to me, to be honest. It didn't make a lot of sense. I have to be honest though, many of this authors’ mysteries don't make sense to me but I don't read her books for that. I read them for the relationships. Kelly and Nick are different than Ty and Zane and I'm glad for that. Glad she didn't carbon copy the two couples. Nick and Kelly are calm and stable and solid. I find them to be sweet and passionate yet free from the angst that has filled the other series.

My main complaint with this story was that we didn't see as much of the relationship side of these two as I would have liked. I would have liked more romance and more smexy times. I also didn't feel like I knew Julian at all. His character was really weird for me. Not at all like he's been in the previous books.

Overall though, I enjoyed the book and if you're a long time fan of the Cut and Run world you definitely need to add this to your to-be-read list.

Book Blurb for Cross & Crown

When Nick O'Flaherty arrives at the scene of a double homicide to find he has a witness to the crime, he thinks it’s his lucky day. But when he realizes his witness is suffering from amnesia and can’t even remember his own name, Nick wishes he’d gone with his gut and put in for vacation time.

Then Nick’s boyfriend and former Recon teammate, Kelly Abbott, joins him in Boston, and Nick finds his hands a little too full as the case and his personal life collide. The witness he’s dubbed “JD” is being tailed by Julian Cross, a retired CIA hitman. To complicate matters further, JD forms an attachment to Nick that Nick struggles not to respond to as they search for the key to JD’s identity.

Trying to determine whether JD is friend or foe as they investigate the crime puts them on the trail of a much older mystery. When multiple attempts are made on their lives, Nick is forced to turn to old enemies and new allies to solve a centuries-old crime before he and Kelly get added to the history books.
