Never Kiss a Rake

Scandal at the House of Russell

Never Kiss a Rake is Book One in the awaited trilogy about the Russell sisters. Bryony Russell’s father has part ownership in a company and is now being accused of stealing money. The family lives with a cloud of shame over their heads. Then there is a suspicious carriage accident and he is killed. The sisters feel that their father was put in the forefront of illegal money laundering and was murdered. Bryony, the oldest, goes to work as a servant in the household of Adrian Bruton, Earl of Kilmaryn. She hopes to discover the real truth about her father. Adrian was also part owner of the company and he is left untouched by the money laundering. Bryony thinks he is the prime suspect, guilty of theft and murder of her father.

Ms. Stuart describes Adrian Bruton as witty and a little dangerous. Those were really his only redeeming qualities. I felt a little sad for Bryony, she had scars left from small pox. Adrian was a cad and I just didn't like to see any romance between him and Bryony. Unfaithful husbands are not to be trusted, especially by their wives. I felt Adrian deserved the wife he had, she was evil and the two of them belonged with each other.

Never Kiss a Rake has a little bit of suspense, romance and mystery. I haven't read any other titles by this author, perhaps I should. Currently I only have one book to base my opinions on. I have to say the Never Kiss a Rake is an OK book, but just not for me. Everyone has their own opinion of what the perfect read is. If you like a historical romance and mystery, give this one a try. Your opinion might be different.

I give this book, 3 STARS.
