A Grave Calling

Bodies of Evidence, #1

“A Grave Calling” has you questioning and thinking is this a good thing or bad thing? How can 25 year old Julie Hall find bodies? She had taken up the dowsing rod in order to find water…and ends up finding bodies instead. What a surprise or rather a shock when she starts finding dead bodies. Julie doesn't want this "gift"! She just wants her peaceful and quiet life. But then she is rather forced into helping since the FBI needs her to help solve a case. Is there a serial killer out there? There are still missing girls. It seems as soon as one body is found, other girls disappear.

Julie lives a normal young woman's life. She has a boyfriend, job, and a dog. But she is different in other ways. Her "gift" soon gets out when a friend starts telling others. Soon everyone knows Julie can find dead bodies. So much for keeping it hidden.

I liked the way the author gave us the main character as being just like any other young woman. And, yet, the author surprises you with the extraordinary gift Julie has. The author puts you in Julie's place and you, as the reader, wonder how you would handle this delicate situation. You have to feel for Julie. She just wants to be "normal", but she can't be. Sometimes you think you have the ability to know what is going to happen next. That is nothing compared to Julie. The reader can't help but love Julie. She's smart and has a bit of humor to her. Plus she has the "gift". But the author soon puts you in panic mode. Could Julie be the next on the killer's list? Is she in immediate danger?

The book does have some profanity in it. But I felt the author put that in to make the story more real. You have to admit, these days it is rather common.

The suspense rises as the killer gets closer and closer to Julie. What will happen? Will Julie be next? The author definitely keeps you on the edge with the suspense in this book. You won't want to put it down until the end and even then, you may wonder about the "gift". You may wonder, could this happen again? Will there be another white ribbon on a poor girl's wrist?

Book Blurb for A Grave Calling

There had been no attempt to bury the dead girl, naked except for the white ribbon tied to her wrist

Twenty-five-year-old Julie Hall has a unique ability: when she takes up a dowsing rod, she finds not water but bodies. To Julie, it's a curse, not a gift, and one she rarely uses—she prefers her quiet life in a trailer, with her grandfather and her dog for company. But when FBI agent Garrett Pierce shows up at her door seeking help with a case, she has no choice but to assist with their search.

Three girls are still missing. The killer is still out there. As bodies are discovered and more girls disappear, the case becomes almost more than Julie can bear. And when the killer turns his sights toward her, even her growing relationship with the protective Agent Garrett may not be enough to save her.
